Seaside Park Criminal Defense Lawyer

Seaside Park bills itself as “The Family Resort,” yet its court still sees DWI cases, drug and alcohol charges, and assault or harassment complaints alongside its parking tickets. A conviction for a disorderly persons offense creates a New Jersey criminal record, and a DWI conviction carries license penalties that can include an ignition interlock device. Our criminal defense team for Ocean County represents people charged in Seaside Park, whether they live in the borough year-round or were only visiting for the week.

Why Seaside Park Clients Call Us

  • Court meets only about a dozen times a year. With most months getting a single Thursday session, a postponement or missed date can push a case back weeks.
  • A seasonal Thursday calendar. Session dates shift with the season, so we confirm your exact date and start time before you plan around it.
  • A parking-heavy docket that hides serious cases. Of 5,040 filings last court year, 4,179 were parking tickets, but the same court also heard 163 criminal complaints and 10 DWI cases.
  • Morning virtual sessions. The borough holds a 9:00 a.m. session online, which can save a visitor from a long drive back to the barrier island.

Seaside Park’s Thursday Court Schedule

Seaside Park sets its session dates a year at a time, and those dates follow a seasonal rhythm. For most of the year the court sits on one Thursday a month. In the peak summer months of July, August and September, the court adds a second Thursday session, and some months have no session at all.

Each session date has a 9:00 a.m. virtual session and a 10:00 a.m. in-person session. Read your notice closely for the time and format that apply to you.

The date and time on your court notice control. A call to the court at 732-793-5116 confirms when your case is listed.

Source: New Jersey Judiciary, Municipal Court Statistics, July 2025–June 2026, PDF page 445. Figures above combine the report’s criminal columns (indictable, disorderly/petty disorderly and 96 other criminal complaints), DWI and moving violations, and leave out 4,179 parking tickets. Including parking, the court recorded 5,040 total filings. Figures are reported by court, not by arresting agency or the defendant’s town of residence. A clearance rate above 100% means more cases were resolved than newly filed during the period; it is not a conviction rate. These figures are a reporting-period snapshot, not live court data.

What Seaside Park’s Court Numbers Mean

NJ Judiciary statistics covering July 2025 to June 2026 put Seaside Park at 5,040 filings, a jump of about 56.7% from 3,217 a year earlier. Parking tickets drove most of that volume: 4,179 of the filings, nearly 83%, were parking cases, the third-highest parking count among Ocean County municipal courts after Point Pleasant Beach and Seaside Heights. Moving violations made up 688 filings, about 14%. Criminal filings came to 163, of which 23 were indictable complaints and 44 were disorderly persons complaints, and DWI filings fell from 13 to 10.

The court disposed of 4,974 cases, a 99% clearance rate, so it nearly kept pace with a much bigger intake. The year ended with 632 cases in backlog and 1,406 pending. Numbers this size show the court’s workload, not how a judge will rule on any one person’s charge.

2

Summons or Complaint Number

3

Complainant or Issuing Officer

The summons may identify the police officer or other complainant who issued or signed the charge, along with the involved police agency.

4

5

Important: Your actual summons and any later notice from Seaside Park Municipal Court control your appearance date, time, location and whether the proceeding is scheduled in person or remotely. If a later court notice differs from the information originally printed on the summons, follow the current court notice or confirm the information directly with the court.

Appearing Virtually or in Person in Seaside Park

Seaside Park runs both formats. To take part in a virtual session, the borough asks you to register by emailing the court at SeasidePark.mc@njcourts.gov. Its page gives these instructions for remote appearances:

  • Find a closed, quiet room. Join from a private space, not a car, a beach or a crowded kitchen.
  • Stay muted until called. Keep your microphone off until it is your turn; if you are on the phone, press *6 to unmute.
  • Use the name on your notice. Sign in under your real name exactly as it appears on the court paperwork.
  • Have a backup. If your video will not work, call the court so you can be heard by audio instead.
  • No recordings. Recording any part of the session is prohibited.

In-person defendants report to 1 Municipal Plaza for the 10:00 a.m. session shown on the borough’s calendar.

What Cases Does Seaside Park Municipal Court Handle?

Parking cases dominate here, but the judge also rules on DWI, motor vehicle offenses, borough ordinance violations and disorderly persons charges such as these.

Criminal and Disorderly Persons Offenses

DWI and Traffic Offenses

  • N.J.S.A. 39:4-50 — DWI
  • N.J.S.A. 39:4-98 — speeding
  • N.J.S.A. 39:3-29 — failure to have license, registration or insurance card in the vehicle
  • N.J.S.A. 39:6B-2 — operating without insurance
  • N.J.S.A. 39:4-50.4a — Alcotest refusal

Route 35 is Seaside Park’s main road, running south toward Island Beach State Park and north through Seaside Heights to Route 37, which leads over the bay to Toms River and the Garden State Parkway. In summer, NJ Transit’s seasonal Route 137 bus also brings visitors from the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York, adding to the beach-season traffic.

Paying or Contesting a Seaside Park Ticket

Seaside Park takes payments for traffic and parking tickets online through NJMCdirect. You will need the ticket number and the vehicle’s plate number, and the site accepts Visa and MasterCard with a convenience fee.

  • Fines set in court. After your case is decided, the fine can be paid online right away.
  • Need more time? The borough asks you to call 732-793-5116 right after your case to request a payment arrangement.
  • Plea-by-mail and bail forms. The court supplies a Plea-by-Mail form and an Authorization to Apply Bail by Mail form; call the court before using them to make sure they fit your case.
  • Remember what paying means. Paying a ticket admits the violation. A parking ticket has no points, but a moving violation can add points and insurance costs, so get advice first on anything beyond a parking ticket.
  • Public defender. Anyone asking for a public defender fills out the borough’s financial questionnaire. Under the municipal code, an approved applicant may be charged an application fee of up to $200, which the court can waive.

Preparing for Your Seaside Park Court Date

  • Look at the start time, not just the Thursday. Seaside Park runs both 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. starts, and your notice says which one is yours.
  • Register for Zoom by email. Send your registration to the court’s email address ahead of a virtual session rather than on the morning itself.
  • Know that sessions are spread out. If you need a postponement, ask early; the next available Thursday may be a month or more away.
  • Bring proof for parking disputes. Photos of signs, meters, beach-block markings or a receipt can help if you contest a parking ticket.
  • Have your documents ready. Keep your ticket or complaint, driver’s license, registration and insurance card on hand, whether you appear online or in person.

When a Seaside Park Charge Leaves Municipal Court

A Seaside Park judge has no authority over indictable charges such as burglary or third-degree drug distribution. Police file the complaint locally, the county prosecutor takes it over, and a case that goes forward is litigated at the Ocean County Courthouse complex in Toms River, in the Superior Court. A share of those charges are later downgraded to disorderly persons offenses and remanded to Seaside Park for a decision. First-time defendants should ask about New Jersey’s diversionary programs; completing conditional dismissal or PTI typically ends with the charge dismissed.

Nearby Courts

Seaside Park’s closest neighbor is Seaside Heights, directly to the north on Route 35, and the borough also borders Berkeley Township. Other nearby Ocean County courts include Toms River and Lavallette. Jurisdiction follows the location of the offense, so a stop a block outside Seaside Park goes to a different judge.
