The streets of Elizabeth turned deadly this week when two men were found dead from fatal shooting within just 30 minutes of each other. It is unclear at this time if the shootings are related. At least one of the men appears to have been shot at close range with a handgun which is indicative of a premeditated “hit”.

Both shootings are under investigation by the Union County Homicide Task Force and the Elizabeth Police Department according to a joint statement by acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park and Elizabeth Police Chief Patrick Shannon. The investigation is still in the early stages and police haven’t released any possible motives to the killings. However, one thing is clear – people are getting killed on the streets of Elizabeth. These two deaths bring the homicide number up to 10 killings so far this year in Elizabeth.

Police are encouraging witnesses to come forward and Union County Crime Stoppers is also offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in either of these cases. These anonymous tips can often lead to a break-through in a police investigation and ultimately even an arrest.
