Finding the Jackson Courtroom

Jackson Municipal Court is at 102 Jackson Drive, and that is where in-person sessions are held. Jackson’s township offices are at a different address, 95 W. Veterans Highway, and the two are easy to mix up. If you are driving to court, use 102 Jackson Drive.

Staff are in the court office from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m., and the phones are answered for another half hour, until 4:30. The main court number is 732-928-1205; Court Administrator Camille Elluzzi is at extension 3026, and deputy administrators Jennifer Mulcahy-Pancza and Hailey Varca are at extensions 2801 and 2803. Private Complaints and Jackson’s Local Offense Lists

If you want to file a complaint against someone yourself rather than through the police, Jackson takes private citizen complaints by appointment only, and no appointments are given while court is in session. The other side of that process matters too: if a neighbor or acquaintance has filed a complaint against you, you will receive a summons and a court date like any other defendant.

Jackson also publishes a Local Criminal Offense List and a Local Traffic Offense List, along with the Plea by Mail form and the public defender application. If the statute on your summons appears on one of those lists and you are unsure what it means, ask before your date rather than at the counter.

What Jackson’s Court Numbers Mean

The NJ Judiciary’s court-year report for July 2025 through June 2026 shows Jackson with 15,005 filings, the fifth-highest total in Ocean County and about 12.7% more than the 13,315 filed a year earlier. Moving violations made up roughly 75% of that total. Criminal filings reached 2,843, and 684 of those were indictable complaints first filed in Jackson. DWI filings increased about 23%, from 142 to 175.

Jackson disposed of 13,875 cases across all categories, a 92% clearance rate. Since that rate is below 100%, the court took in more than it closed and the caseload carried into the new year grew. The year-end figures show 1,480 cases in backlog and 3,247 pending. Treat these numbers as a picture of how busy the court is; they cannot tell you how your own case will end.

Virtual and In-Person Sessions in Jackson

Jackson runs a hybrid court. Some cases are heard on Zoom and others in the courtroom on Jackson Drive, and the notice you receive is the place to look for which applies to you.

• Watch the opening statement first. Before joining a session, Jackson asks defendants to watch the Municipal Court Opening Statement, posted in English and Spanish. The township also links a short video on what to expect in court.
• Prefer the courtroom? Contact the court office to ask for an in-person appearance. Staff will try to accommodate the request.
• Need an interpreter? Call the court ahead of time and say which language you need. Jackson arranges interpreter services for the hearing.
• Ask for counsel early. Jackson posts its public defender application in two languages, so you can apply before your first appearance rather than at it.

What Cases Does Jackson Municipal Court Handle?

The court on Jackson Drive hears motor vehicle offenses, drunk driving cases, disorderly and petty disorderly persons offenses, and violations of township ordinances. Some of the charges we see most:

• N.J.S.A. 2C:20-11 — Jackson shoplifting charges, including cases from the outlet stores

Jackson tickets can come from Interstate 195 and from County Routes 526, 527, 528, 537, 547 and 571, the township’s main roads. In summer, visitors heading to Great Adventure, Hurricane Harbor and the Wild Safari add to that traffic.

Paying or Contesting a Jackson Ticket

Jackson also provides a Plea by Mail form, which lets eligible defendants resolve a case in writing instead of appearing. Payable New Jersey tickets can also be paid online through the statewide NJMCdirect site.

Think carefully before paying. A payment is legally the same as pleading guilty: the conviction becomes final, and the Motor Vehicle Commission adds any points and surcharges that come with it. On a ticket that could put points on your license or lead to a suspension, talk the case over with a lawyer first. Defendants who cannot afford a lawyer can file Jackson’s public defender application, available in English and Spanish.

• Call before 4:30 p.m. Jackson’s office takes calls until 4:30, and Court Administrator Camille Elluzzi is at extension 3026.
• Request in-person early. If your notice says Zoom and you would rather appear in the courtroom, ask well before the date.
• Line up an interpreter. Tell the court in advance what language you need so the interpreter is there when your case is called.
• Collect your records. Bring the ticket and your driving documents, plus names of witnesses and any pictures or dashcam video of the stop.

When a Jackson Charge Leaves Municipal Court

Indictable crimes are outside what the Jackson Drive court can try. Those complaints, 684 of them last court year, start here and are then forwarded to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, with cases that continue moving to the Ocean County Superior Court in Toms River. The opposite can happen as well: after reviewing a file, the county prosecutor may decide to downgrade the charge to a non-indictable offense and remand it to Jackson Drive. For some first offenders, New Jersey diversion, including Pretrial Intervention and conditional dismissal, offers a route to a dismissed charge.

Nearby Courts

Jackson touches four other Ocean County municipalities: Lakewood, Manchester, Plumsted Township and Toms River. To the north and west it borders Freehold Township, Howell, Millstone and Upper Freehold in Monmouth County. A stop on the far side of a township line goes to that town’s court, not Jackson’s.
